About our foodbank

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

The Hertford, Ware & District Foodbank has been running for 12 years.

In our first week back in April 2013 we supported 8 people ensuring that they had the food they needed. Last year (2024) we supported 3306 individuals. The Hertford & District Foodbank became a charity in its own right in May 2014 and then went on to join the Trussell Network in 2015.

Running from two centres, we are now open 5 days a week; in Hertford – Mon/Wed/Fri and in Ware – Tues/Thurs. We work with over 80 agencies, including citizen’s advice, social services and schools.

The foodbank offers a parcel which includes nutritionally balanced food designed to support individuals / families for a minimum of 3 days. This includes a variety of items such as tinned meats, fish & vegetables, rice, pasta, soup, baked beans, milk, juice, tea and coffee. We also provide a number of fresh items including spread, cheese, bread, eggs, fruit and vegetables. But it’s not only food that we provide – we can offer various toiletries and cleaning products too.

We aim to help all those facing crisis without judgement, whilst also working towards a future where foodbanks are no longer needed.
